WORK & EXPERIENCE
LPC-S & Regitered Play Therapist ™
Amber Hughes is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist ™ with over a decade of experience supporting children and families. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings and has been in private practice since 2021.
Her work is rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-focused care and child-centered play therapy, with a strong emphasis on meeting children and families where they are. Amber brings this experience into each session through thoughtful, developmentally appropriate care that supports both children’s emotional growth and caregivers’ confidence.
MY APPROACH
Play & Communication
I believe behavior is a form of communication. Through play therapy and attachment-focused, trauma-informed care, I help children express what they may not yet have words for.
I also partner closely with caregivers, offering guidance and practical support to help parents better understand their child’s emotional needs and respond to big emotions with confidence, compassion, and connection.
You don’t need to have all the answers before starting. Therapy is a collaborative process, and parents are an important part of that work.
You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental space where your child feels safe to explore and grow, and where you receive guidance to better understand your child’s behavior and emotional world.

My Why
I know how overwhelming these moments can feel, both professionally and personally.
Outside of the playroom, I’m a mom of three, and I know firsthand that raising kids can be messy, meaningful, and not always easy.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me with my family, cooking, reading, or hunting for good thrift finds.
